Tree Limbs
Despite a slow start, it looks like most of the downed tree limbs that C'dale resides drug out to the road have gone into the wood chipper. As the mayor points out in the email below, there were a lot of broken branches out there. But no charge? As the mayor points out in this month' s Carbondale Communique, we pay for everything one way or another:
"We have had such an enormous outpouring of limbs and debris, more than what was created by the storms, that are crews are working extra to pick everything up. Everything will be picked up, as part of this no-charge service to our residents."

Branch Pick Up
According to the Southern, it looks like starting the 25, the city will be picking up branches that fell off during last week's ice storm:
During the week of February 25, 2008, the City of Carbondale Public Works Department will provide a free pick up service of tree limbs fallen by the recent winter storm. The schedule for the pick up service will be one day after a resident’s normal trash day. The City requests that residents follow these guidelines in setting out the storm debris:
The debris should be set at curbside and not block sidewalks and streets.
Tree limbs should be cut to a maximum of eight (8) feet in length and be less than eight (8) inches in diameter.
Please call the Office of Maintenance and Environmental Services at 457-3275 regarding any questions about this free service.
Couldn't find any announcement of this on the city's website. You'd think an announcement like this would be more prominently placed. Glad to see it's being done, esp. since Cape Girardeau announced a similar program last week.

Warm Weather
It's 65 degrees out as I type this. The National Weather Service says temperatures like this are not particularly unusual for January. However, the Old Farmer's Almanac says to expect a mild winter with only cold days rather than cold spells.

Most Depressing Day of the Year!
According to Dr. Cliff Arnell, a British psychologist, his research shows yesterday was the most depressing day of the year. So if you made it through yesterday, things should only improve.
