Club SIN & Mayor Cole

If Mayor Cole was targeting every business he is accused of targeting, he wouldn't have any time for overseeing city operations. And isn't naming your nightclub Club SIN just asking for trouble?

Correction

As was pointed out in the comments, what I've been calling the Liquor Advisory Board is actually the Liquor Control Commission. The LAB is a citizens group which wasn't affected by the proposal at all. Thanks for the correction.

LAB Proposal Pulled

Apparently Mayor Cole couldn't line up enough council support for his proposal to merge the Liquor Advisory Board duties into the Mayor's office, so pulled it from the agenda Tuesday. However, I've been by a couple of people the description of him as angry as described in the article in the Southern is incorrect and that he was pretty even tempered throughout. On the other hand, I've also been told the article was pretty accurate.

I stuck my head in to see what was going on but the council had already adjourned to closed session to deal with personnel issues by the time I got there, so I can't say one way or the other. Anyone who was there care to give their view?

Liquor Advisory Board Changes

In the hoopla over the sales tax proposal, the proposed changes in the Liquor Advisory Board have gotten short shift. It really doesn't appear that the current set up of an actual board rather than decision making authority vested in the mayor's office slows the process down. I checked with the fine folks at the C'dale Chamber of Commerce and found no complaints regarding the current set-up of the board from any members as far as how long it takes to get a liquor permit approved. The longest time reported for a permit was about 2 months, with most people applying for one getting it approved or not in about 20 days.
