Councilman Jack Arrested

And the councilman was charged with DUI and possession of less than 2.5 grams of cannabis. It appears as if one of the commentors on the article may know a bit more about what happened:

The Southern also says, “ Jack cooperated with officers”. Well, lets praise him for doing what he should have and not condemn him for what he did. First, not giving chemical testing or participating in field sobriety after almost striking a patrol car is not much cooperation to me. How about you?

This is just too bad.

Set the pot aside for a sec-- this is an otherwise-educated man in a position of authority who doesn't seem to know or care that driving while intoxicated could be dangerous to fellow citizens.

If he wants to be a jerk, at least he shouldn't make it my problem by getting on the road with me.

According to the Illinois State Police website: "About 2 in every 5 Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives."

Somebody hook this bum up with a bike!

As I understand it, biking while drunk is also illegal.

Having been related to a person who died due to a drunk driver, it really saddens me that someone whom I thought of as a good councilman and a friend would stoop low enough to drive drunk...let alone be caught with weed on him.

I don't think he should be crucified, but I will say that I'm honestly disappointed, and that if this is something he does regularly, he should consider stepping down from his elected position.

Low Key Towny

Strange ... nothing about Jack's arrest in this week's Carbondale Times.

FYI: It was on page 10 of this week's Carbondale Times.

Ohhhh, page 10. Thanks for the heads up. How in the world did I miss such an interesting development in Carbondale city news right below Earth Talk on page 10? My bad.
