Noted blogger notes passing of Noted Historian

Moved by the passing of one of C'dale's giants, former local blogger Peter Gregory revives his C'dale biz blog to shed some dark light on the recent passing of noted historian, scholar John Y. Simon.

Comments:
How ironic that this entry follows one titled "the power of rumor"... I want to like Pete, but he makes some pretty bold claims with no attribution whatsoever. I expect a lot more from anyone who's more or less saying Simon was murdered. Seems like rather irresponsible writing to me!

I hate saying "Me, too" but that's what I was thinking when I read the post.

The Gregorian Rant has a lot of merit. I actually discussed this at length with another friend of Dr. Simon's -- and we agreed. It was the first thing I said when I heard about his death. I don't know about U.S. Grant funding but the idea of Dr. Simon being a menace to anyone is absurd. I actually moved the stuff out of his office for him, so I'm very aware of the situation. Unfortunately, the idea of a wrongful death lawsuit is pretty remote because this was not his first trip to the hospital on cardiac related problems. He was a 2+ pack a day smoker to the end and his diet was pretty damned awful. He didn't look too good the last time I saw him and it was obvious the loss of his job was doing terrible damage.

Well, now that ANONYMOUS says it has merit, all my doubts have vanished!

Seriously, we need to stop allowing anonymous comments on this blog.

Perhaps this is the same anonymous commenter who claims SIUC may be trying to drive out the Jews at Gregorian Rants blog? We'll never know!

Peter G has posted a follow-up on his Gregorian Rants blog
