Simon Campaign Starts in Earnest

Sheila Simon's campaign for mayor kicked off in force yesterday as 50 campaign workers overflowed the small campaign office on the second floor of the Island Building before setting off to cavass Carbondale residents. The campaigners dropped off material at about 400 residences over the course of the day and spoke to over a hundred people. Meanwhile, Mayor Cole's headquarters ( at least I think it's his headquarters, there's a big sign in the window) in the Campus Shopping Center remains quiet.

What does this job pay, anyway? Can't be much, and I assume she would keep her other job at the University to pay the bills.

The mayor's job pays about $10,000.

She would keep her job at SIU Law School.

Good lord!

The Cole feller is probably wondering what he did to deserve this. Doing a thankless job like that for a measly 10 grand and then having Paul Simon's daughter step in to kick your ass. Does he have a fallback? By that I mean if he loses, does Carbondale lose him, or could he possibly be appointed to a vacant seat on the council?

Nope, if he loses, he's off the council. Don't count Cole out just becasue his opponent is Sheila Simon. He's been involved in politics in one form or another since he was in college and has the support of most of the business community. Remember the standing ovation when he announced at the Chamber of Commerce?

So if she wins, does her seat become vacant? Could she appoint Cole to fill the vacancy?

Since Simon is not seeking her same seat at City Council, one of the City Council candidates (link) will get that job, whether she wins or loses.

Whoever wins, the other will be gone from CC.

What is Brad Cole's job in real life?

What is Brad Cole's job in real life?

Now there is a question in need of answering. Why won't he release his financial information like Simon has?
